About Erica

Erica Tyson is a consultant with a record of professional success in the education, corporate, nonprofit, and arts sectors. She seeks to apply her vast knowledge to help others achieve their desired results.  Erica’s rich background in coaching and consulting spans groups as diverse as a UN conference, front-line leaders, correctional officers and inmates, C-suite executives, state humanities councils, and more.  Each engagement has two things in common: 1) the experiences are effective and tailored to clients' goals and 2) each participant feels like they are the most important person in the room.

Erica started In Alignment, LLC. because she recognized the need for many mission-driven organizations and professionals to add strategic focus to their operations and daily activities. Often, especially in the nonprofit arena, resources are tight and it is imperative that labor, budgets, and processes are optimized. As a consultant, Erica has the tools, knowledge, and approach that helps to inform the best choices for you and your organization.

Prior to establishing In Alignment, Erica spent a combined 15+ years as a leader in nonprofit and arts organizations. For 8 years, she led the programmatic implementation of College Summit, one of the leading college access organizations in St. Louis toward superior, sustainable results. Through managing the growth of a start-up organization and navigating complex educational relationships, she developed knowledge many in the field seek for their organizations. A key strength of her tenure at College Summit was the ability to develop staff and cultivate leadership within the team. Stints with other organizations, including the Wyman Center and Upward Bound, round out a record of success with top educational nonprofit organizations.

As a Director and Board Vice President with the Haven of Grace, a shelter for pregnant women in need, Erica honed her leadership development skills. There, she served a key role in the organization's strategic planning and is responsible for supporting the Executive Director.

Erica utilizes a balanced approach that incorporates meaningful data, effective stakeholder engagement, and best practices. Having succeeded in challenging educational and community settings, she hopes to help you learn from her triumphs and trials.

Erica has lived in the midwest and the eastern United States and is currently based in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and is trained in Pathway to Change, a change management system through the Interaction Institute for Social Change (IISC), certification in USF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace.
